Elstree School teacher Luke Owens is taking on a marathon challenge to raise funds.

Luke is running 7 marathons in 7 days - totalling 184 miles - in Berkshire and the surrounding area from Monday 22nd March.

Luke is aiming to raise £10,000 for the Trust. It is a cause close to his heart, as he’s seen the growing importance of wellbeing in his role at Woolhampton-based Elstree School. Charlie was a former pupil at Elstree School, which maintains close links with the Trust.

“With the impact of the pandemic and the recent re-opening of schools, I think mental health is a hugely important issue for all our young people,"

Luke, Senior Master at Elstree School, said.

“Since I said I was undertaking this challenge so many people have come up to me and spoken about how mental health has affected them or their close friends or family. I aim to raise funds to support the incredible work of the Charlie Waller Trust along with awareness of the importance of good mental health for children and young people,” Luke added.

Luke, who lives in Woolhampton with his wife and two young children, will take in local landmarks including the Madejski Stadium, Newbury Racecourse and the Thames Path, during his seven marathons. His fundraising effort has won celebrity support from the likes of former England cricket captain Nasser Hussain, current England cricket captain Joe Root and ex-England rugby player Will Greenwood, who have all recorded good luck video messages.

Chief Executive Clare Stafford, said:

“This really is a super-human fundraising effort, and we are so grateful to Luke for supporting us. Luke is shining a welcome spotlight on the importance of mental health for all our children and young people. It is just this sort of positive action that will inspire children with hope and optimism, so vital to their mental wellbeing at this time.”
