Mark World Mental Health Day (10 October) and complete our Walk for Wellbeing 16-mile Berkshire Challenge

Join fellow supporters of the Charlie Waller Trust on our first ever Berkshire Challenge, raising funds to help us continue our crucial work supporting young people’s mental health.

Covering 16 miles, this is a substantial walk of more than a half-marathon distance. The route winds through the glorious Berkshire countryside and may reveal some sights that are new, even to locals!

Why not sign up, either as an individual or a group of friends and family or colleagues? There’s a special early bird discount on the registration fee if you sign up by 31 July.

Thank you to Boden for sponsoring this event.

The Walk

We’ll start our walk in the stunning grounds of Englefield House, whose story dates back to the year 871. We’ll then take in many other points of historical interest. They include 18th century romantic landmark, Wilder’s Folly, and the beautiful River Pang, thought to have inspired Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in the Willows. The route will also take us through picturesque villages and hamlets, including Bradfield, Stanford Dingley - and Tutts Clump, home of the locally famous cider. We’ll break for a packed lunch provided by the Trust at an attractive picnic spot along the way, and there will be drinks and small snacks available to sustain us until we finish back at the impressive Englefield Estate. The minimum age for participants is 16, and those aged 16-17 will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Why Walk for Wellbeing?

Walk for Wellbeing – side by side for mental health

More than a million children were referred to mental health services in England last year and young people’s mental health is seldom out of the headlines. Behind the statistics are stories of so many families, schools and communities desperate to help children with mental health difficulties but who often don’t know how.

The Trust provides free training and resources to those who are best placed to help children who are struggling, including parents and carers, teachers and community workers. Walk for Wellbeing will raise money for this vital work.

The event will also help us raise awareness of the mental health benefits of walking. The NHS says it’s a scientific fact that regular physical activity and exercise can make us healthier and happier. Walking is a simple and effective way to improve mental wellbeing: it can boost your mood, make you feel more alert and refreshed, help you sleep better and contribute to keeping your mind sharp.

One previous participant said: "It is an amazing way to spend a day. You take time out of your life and meet new people, whilst doing a great form of exercise for your mind and body, while also knowing that you’re raising money for an incredible charity.”

The Charlie Waller Trust is based in Newbury and we’re incredibly excited about our first local Walk for Wellbeing. We would love you to join us and share the excitement! For more information and to sign up, visit:
