Recital: Beethoven-Liszt: Symphony no.3 in E flat major Op.55 “Eroica”

Hailed as ‘a sensation’ (Fanfare), ‘phenomenal’ (Gramophone), ‘totally astonishing’ and ‘an astounding figure’ (BBC Radio 3 Record Review), Paul Wee has been recognised as ‘a pianist who possesses transcendental technical prowess, the stamina of a marathon runner, a sure command of large-scale structure, rhythmic élan, and a large portfolio of nuance and color’ (ClassicsToday).

After a number of early appearances, including a concerto début in London’s Royal Albert Hall aged 12, Paul continued his studies in New York City at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Nina Svetlanova. Having decided not to pursue a primary career in the arts, Paul returned to the United Kingdom to study law at the University of Oxford, and obtained his BA (Jurisprudence) and BCL from Keble College.

He was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 2010, and attempts to balance his love for the piano alongside the demands of a busy practice at the Bar. His début recording of Alkan’s Symphony for Solo Piano and Concerto for Solo Piano was released in November 2019 to international critical acclaim and shortlisted for a Gramophone Award, and his recording of Thalberg’s complete L’art du chant was selected as an instrumental Choice by BBC Music Magazine.

Paul Wee records for BIS Records.

Coronavirus (Covid-19)

We continue to be in truly unprecedented times. We, of course, want everyone to enjoy the Piano Recital and the safety of those attending and volunteering at the event is our main priority. With this in mind it will be necessary for us to make a few important changes to this year’s event and we have provided some detail below.

Prior to the event we will have completed a full risk assessment to ensure we are Covid-secure. It may be necessary for some measures to be in place on the day of the event to help minimise risk. We simply ask that all those attending adhere to all guidelines in place, at the time of the event, to help ensure that the event can be enjoyed safely.

In the event that the Piano Recital has to be cancelled because of COVID-19, full refunds will be offered.
